ShareEverywhere 1.0.1

The first maintenance release of ShareEverywhere has been submitted to Apple for review. Hopefully it should be available in a few days.

There is one new feature that I would like to draw your attention to:

  • Add selected text in Safari to notes field of supported sharing services

If you’re in Safari and you select some text before you tap “Share,” when you try to share to services that support it, you’ll get the URL, the page title and the selected text.

Other changes include:

  • Show status message when successfully finish sharing
  • Performance improvements in getting webpage title when sharing from Safari
  • Other miscellaneous fixes and minor improvements

This version was almost ready to go the day before iOS 8 went live but Apple did not approve ShareEverywhere until shortly after the release. Since this version was going to miss the first users I figured I may as well wait a couple of days to see if any other serious problems were found (none have as far as I know).

Wandle and iOS 8

Apple releases the new version of iOS, the software that runs on your iPhone and iPad, on Wednesday. I’ve been running it on my iPad for a couple of months and my iPhone since last month and I’ve generally been impressed. It doesn’t have the massive visual change that iOS 4 or 7 had but there’s lots of changes that will make using iOS that little bit better.

Having said that, a lot of the new changes are developer focused so we won’t see a lot of the benefits until after iOS 8 launches and other developers can share their hard work.

Talking of which, we have a lot of work to share. We already blogged about ShareEverywhere, our new app launching at the same time as iOS 8.

As far as I know, all our apps currently work without problem on iOS 8. Of course they don’t currently take advantage of the new hardware or new software features, but they should continue to work as before. (If not, please let us know.)

We will be updating all our apps for better functionality on iOS 8. www.cut is getting very close to being available. Version 3.3 will hopefully be out by the end of the month.

Rootn Tootn and CameraGPS are a little further out, but both will be getting updates to better cope with the bigger screens and some of the other iOS goodies. More information nearer the time.

Yummy will get its biggest update ever — version 3 — some time after that.

So, in summary, everything should work right out of the gate, we have a new app and all our other apps will get updates to work even better with iOS 8.

Announcing: ShareEverywhere 1.0

ShareEverywhere main appWandle Software Limited is pleased to announce our new app for iPhone and iPad, ShareEverywhere. Made possible by the new sharing functionality in iOS 8, ShareEverywhere adds itself to every standard “action” menu, allowing you to share links and images to a wide range of services.

Previously sharing a link from an iOS app to another service was painful. To share a link from Safari you had to either configure a “bookmarklet,” which was convoluted and difficult, or copy the link to the clipboard and manually launch a sharing app, which was clunky.

This changes in iOS 8, where apps can add themselves to the system “Action” menu. That’s exactly what ShareEverywhere does, but rather than sharing to a single service it supports fourteen! Because it’s built into the system, it works with all apps that use the system share menu and works with both links and images.
